A lightning strike caused a house fire in Conway Wednesday afternoon.
It happened during a severe thunderstorm.
Crews responded around 2:26 p.m. to a reported residential structural fire on Long Leaf Pine Drive, according to a Twitter post by Horry County Fire Rescue. No injuries are reported and the fire is under control.
Two displaced individuals in the house fire will be offered assistance from the American Red Cross, according to the fire rescue department.
The fire happened as thousands of Horry County residents began reporting power outages due to storms rolling out.
About 3,520 Horry County residents are experiencing power outages due to the storm, according to the Horry Electric Cooperative’s outage map. A high concentration of the outages are hitting residents near Nixonville.
It’s unclear when power might be restored.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington stated earlier in the day that severe weather was expected in the Conway, Socastee and North Myrtle Beach areas. The main threat was damaging wind gusts up to 40 mph and hail.
Thunderstorms are likely throughout the week, with a hot and humid summer weather pattern, according to the National Weather Service’s midweek briefing.
