The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources arrested a Myrtle Beach man Wednesday related to a boating death that happened in Horry County in June.

Matthew Brown, 29, was charged with felony boating under the influence and obstruction of justice. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday. He remained incarcerated Wednesday afternoon after receiving a $25,000 bond.

The charges stem from an accident that occurred June 18 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Brown was the vessel operator that hit a dock, resulting in the death of a passenger, according to a Twitter post from the SCDNR.

Jacob Williams, 24, of Myrtle Beach, was killed in the boating accident. His body was recovered by a state dive team on June 19, hours after he was reported missing.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office said that Williams was thrown from the boat after it struck a dock.
