Update: Police open DUI investigation in deadly two-car wreck that killed 1 and injured 5

A 41-year-old Longs man was killed Sunday night in a two-car collision on a North Myrtle Beach bridge, the Horry County Coroner’s Office said in a statement.

It happened around 8 p.m. along Robert Edge Parkway. North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue crews found two vehicles involved with heavy damage, the department said. One vehicle had left the roadway and was over the guardrail resting on the embankment.

North Myrtle Beach Police said that a female driver of a black Lexus swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a white Nissan head-on, according to eyewitnesses.

The victim was a passenger in the Nissan and died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. The remaining occupants in the Nissan — a woman and three children, along with the female driver of the Lexus, were all taken to the hospital, according to police.

The victim’s name will be released once his family is notified.

While conducting an inventory of the Lexus for a tow, officers located an open container of wine, along with a cup in the cupholder containing the wine, police said.

Officers have obtained a search warrant for a blood draw of the female driver for a felony DUI investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
