Authorities arrested a Myrtle Beach man in connection with the death of a woman whose undressed body was found in a wrecked car Friday morning.

Terry Rushton, 40, was charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Rushton was driving a 2010 Nissan Altima on Limerick Road in the Forestbrook community when the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a ditch around 6:15 a.m., Jones said. Emergency crews responded, but when they arrived they couldn’t find a driver.

The victim, a passenger, was identified as 45-year-old Mary Catherine Polk of Little River, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. Polk was wearing only her underwear when troopers found the vehicle.

McSpadden said Polk died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Rushton was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 8:40 p.m. Friday, according to jail records. The following day, his bond was set at $70,000. He was still incarcerated late Saturday afternoon.
