While the weather is not great Thursday, those making plans in the Myrtle Beach area for Friday and Saturday will be much happier with the weekend forecast.
That includes the Grand Strand and Murrells Inlet, where thousands of bikers have gathered for the annual Spring Bike Week. The events surrounding Bike Week will continue through Sunday.
“It won’t be a wash out,” said Jordan Baker, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, of the weekend.
But Thursday, showers will increase across the area and continue into the evening, getting heavier overnight, Baker said. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s.
“Tonight or tomorrow morning (it’s) probably not worth going outside,” Baker said of Thursday’s and Friday’s weather.
By Friday afternoon, however, rain will gradually come to an end and it “should be nice throughout Friday and Saturday,” Baker said. “(It will be a) pretty normal summer weekend.”
Temperatures will continue to be in the mid-70s Friday, but expect temps to warm back up Saturday to the lower 80s and then in the 80s Sunday, Baker said.
There also may be a possibility of showers on Sunday.
