This popular chain in Horry County is opening in Little River. Find out when and where.

Food Lion is opening its 23rd Horry County location this week, expanding its presence in Little River off S.C. Highway 57, the company announced.

The store at 77 S. Highway 57 opens to the public at 8 a.m. on May 3 with a companion liquor store opening from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 4.97-acre site has undergone thousands worth of improvements since July 2021 in anticipation of the supermarket’s arrival, according to county property records.

The company runs two other locations in Little River and nearly two dozen county wide, with its largest footprint in Myrtle Beach.

A subsidiary of Dutch multinational Ahold Delhaize, Food Lion continues to be the company’s most recognizable and fastest growing brand, posting 41 consecutive quarters of profit, investor relations head JP O’Meara said in a February earnings call.

The Little River location will feature a range of locally made products including Carolina Plantation Grits, Gillespie’s salted peanuts and 5C’s Everything Sauce, all made within 100 miles of the store.

It also will include Food Lion to Go, an online and mobile app that lets customers shop remotely -- one of 50 stores adding the service this year, company executives said.
