A customer leaving a North Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant Thursday night alerted staff that the business was on fire, according to North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue responded to the fire at Preston’s Seafood and Country Restaurant, 4530 Highway 17 South, about 8:30 p.m., according to a Facebook post.

The customer noticed that fire was coming from the roof, the post said. When fire crews arrived, they found the fire along the exterior roof line of the front of the building and worked to put it out.

The restaurant posted on its website Friday that because of the fire, the restaurant will remain closed for repairs until further notice. A call to the restaurant Friday morning was not answered.

Crews were able to put the fire out quickly and keep outside damage to an the area where the fire began, according to the fire rescue post.

The front entrance of the restaurant did receive damage because of the water used by crews to battle the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

It appears that some remaining customers had to be evacuated from the building when the fire began.

Santee Cooper pulled the meter to the building because of the damaged area impacting electrical wiring.

Fire crews assisted the owners with securing the building for the night.

The restaurant has been in busy for more than 31 years. It is located near Barefoot Landing.
