Update: What’s causing the water to bubble up off the Myrtle Beach coast? It’s the internet
A Facebook post shared Tuesday morning showed water mysteriously bubbling up off the coast of the Myrtle Beach State Park.
The video was shared at 8:30 a.m., and has captured the attention of hundreds of viewers.
The cause of the water mysteriously bubbling? It’s the internet.
DC Blox’s sub-sea cable project is correlated to the bubbling, the state Department of Parks, Recreations and Tourism confirmed Wednesday.
The $31.5 million project by Atlanta-based DC BLOX includes a 500-mile dark fiber network to Atlanta dotted with eight nodes to support broadband internet access and cloud computing into under served portions of Georgia and South Carolina.
Sam Queen, the director of communications at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, said to the best of her knowledge the group is working closely with environmental groups through the course of the project.
The fiber network is known as a cable landing station and will connect with five sub-sea pipes to create an international web of internet access.
