An 18-year-old has been arrested after a North Carolina man died in a three-vehicle accident last week, according to authorities.

Cristian Oliva, of Supply, died from injuries in a wreck on Highway 31 April 15, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. He was 28.

Mathew DeSomma, of Myrtle Beach, was charged with hit and run and duties of driver involved in an accident with death, according to online booking records.

Oliva, who had been driving a Dodge Ram, died at the scene of the wreck.

When officers first arrived on scene, DeSomma or his unnamed passenger were not at the scene of the crash, according to an incident report. They were discovered by officers north of the crash.

DeSomma, who had been driving an Infinity G37, refused to speak to authorities, but his passenger told officers they had been leaving a party and had both been drinking, according to the report.

It also states DeSomma took a standardized field sobriety test, but “there was no reported indicators of impairment.”

He said they had been traveling south on Carolina Bays Parkway when DeSomma hit the driver side of the Dodge, which had been stationary on the highway.

The two other people involved in the crash were in a Honda Sedan. They received medical attention at the scene, but it is not clear if they were hospitalized.

The driver of that car reported that he had been behind the Infinity when it hit the Dodge. He then ran into the Infinity before coming to a stop, according to the report.

DeSomma was arrested April 15 and released the same day on bond totaling $10,000.
