See how Horry County ranked in new healthiest county ranking for South Carolina

Horry County ranked no. 15 in the healthiest county ranking in South Carolina, according to data from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

The ranking included all 46 counties and measured civic infrastructure and participation.

“Our findings reveal that people and places thrive when all residents have the chance to participate in their communities,” Sheri Johnson, director of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, said in a news release. “History shows that we can remake systems and structures through civic participation that are beneficial to all.”

The health institute considered several factors to rank counties, including access to parks, school funding adequacy, broadband and voter turnout, according to the release.

Beaufort County is the healthiest county in the state, and Allendale is the least healthy in the state, data from the university stated.
