Motorist, 80, dies in hospital week after Myrtle Beach area vehicle wreck

An elderly man was pronounced dead more than a week after being hospitalized following a crash in the Myrtle Beach area, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Wayne Mansfield on Friday succumbed to the multiple traumatic injuries he sustained in the vehicle wreck on April 7, coroner Darris Fowler said.

Mansfield was traveling north on Gibson Avenue in a Mini Cooper and attempted to make a left turn on Highway 544 when he was hit by a Nissan Altima, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Lena Butler.

It is not clear if the driver of the Nissan was injured.

The crash happened on March 28 about 2:55 p.m.
