Suit claims builders of a subdivision caused a North Myrtle Beach restaurant to close
A North Myrtle Beach restaurant is suing developers and builders of a subdivision, claiming they caused the business to close for several days during the construction of several nearby properties in 2020.
Marine Bar & Grill at Barefoot Resort alleges in the lawsuit that Sands Companies International Inc. and Sea Glass Cottages at Barefoot Landing improperly managed their construction site, which was adjacent to the business.
Between July 10-11, employees or subcontractors with the contractors destroyed some utility poles that cut the restaurants’ power, according to the suit filed March 16.
Also, during construction, the defendants either blocked or didn’t clear any storm water draining systems, which caused the restaurant to flood after heavy rain, according to the suit. That resulted in the restaurant losing supplies and food items.
At some point, the Marine Bar & Grill had to close for several days.
A message to Sands Companies seeking comment was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Defendants had a “duty at all relevant times to provide adequate control and supervision so as to ensure that work is performed in accordance with building code and industry standards, without causing damages (to) other properties,” the suit states.
The business is seeking compensation for its losses.
