Freeze expected Tuesday night in area. Residents should bundle up plants, themselves
Horry County residents should plan to bundle up their plants as well themselves for the next few days as temperatures are expected to drop to freezing Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington is reporting that Tuesday night will be the coldest night with temps dropping to the low to mid-30s, said meteorologist Ian Boatman.
It’s a big change from the upper 70s weather that the area experienced over the last few weeks.
“We are being deceived” by what the atmosphere has given us, Boatman said.
Residents in the Myrtle Beach area woke up to the upper 30s Tuesday and can expect to wake up to much the same Wednesday.
“(Tuesday) and Wednesday night are going to be the coldest evening and nights,” Boatman said.
But the good news is that it appears winter is coming to an end in the area.
Boatman said the date for the last spring freeze for our area is around March 15, which is Wednesday.
“You’re hoping, fingers crossed, that you’re seeing the last freeze, but we can’t guarantee that,” Boatman says.
In the meantime, the weather service is urging residents to cover up plants and pipes to prevent breakage.
For the rest of the week, expect temperatures to get a little warmer with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s Thursday.
However, expect another cold front Friday and Saturday, which will knock down the temperatures again, Boatman said. There could be frost concerns Saturday and Sunday night, he said.
That cold weather will only continue into next week with temperatures only expected to be in the upper 50s.
