Crews to continue search for missing boater Tyler Doyle even as bad weather approaches
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said Friday that crews will continue their search for missing boater Tyler Doyle Friday and into this weekend as sea conditions allow.
Citing the expectation of bad weather for the next several days, the SCDNR said in a Friday Twitter post that law enforcement agencies will continue searching for the Loris man, who went missing two weeks ago when his jon boat began taking on water near a Little River jetty.
The Sun News requested Monday the 911 call that was made Jan. 26, the evening Doyle went missing, from the Horry County Government. That information has not yet been received as of Friday.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that wet weather will begin Friday afternoon and elevated rain chances will continue through Sunday. In addition, temperatures will begin to cool Friday night.
During Thursday’s search, the volunteer Wisconsin group Wings of Hope worked with K-9s and sonar, according to the DNR Twitter post.
The North Carolina Marine Patrol had a fisheries patrol on the water and officers with the Brunswick County, N.C., Sheriff’s Office was once again on the water.
In addition, the Holden Beach and Sunset Beach police departments in North Carolina searched the beaches throughout daylight hours, the Twitter post said.
Several items of Doyle, including waders, driver’s license, wallet and duck decoys, washed ashore in areas of North Carolina earlier this month.
The search will continue until Doyle is rescued or his body is recovered, SCDNR spokesman Greg Lucas has said.
The U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search Jan. 27 after about 45 hours and more than 694 miles covered. The North Myrtle Beach Rescue squad stopped their daily searches Feb. 4.
The missing boater has gotten the attention of thousands of people nationwide as the search for him continues.
