One person has died after two pickup trucks collided on U.S. 501 in Horry County

One person has died after two pickup trucks crashed Monday near Conway, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of a Chevrolet Colorado was going south on U.S. 501 when they ran into the back of a GMC Sierra, Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said in a press release.

The passenger in the Chevrolet died, and the driver was taken to a hospital with injuries.

The person who died has not been identified.

The occupant of the GMC was not injured.

The crash happened at 3:20 a.m. near West Perry Road. Horry County Fire Rescue had advised drivers to avoid the area because traffic was blocked. Some lanes were closed for several hours.
