A Myrtle Beach area man has plans to expand his business using a $1 million windfall from the S.C. Education Lottery.

The state’s newest millionaire — who opted for anonymity according to lottery officials — made the winning purchase at a Murphy Express gas station at 557 International Drive, plopping down $10 for a ticket on his way to work.

“I told the clerk when I bought it that I never win,” he said, according to a Dec. 15 news release.

But he overcame the 1-in-440 million odds of striking out, winning the last top prize in THE MILLION game.

“It’s amazing,” he said through state lottery officials.

After telling his wife — who initially thought he was lying — the couple drove to Columbia’s Lottery Claims Center where they recouped the bonanza.

“I’m going to invest in my business,” he told lottery officials. “I always try to give back when I can.”

Meanwhile, the Murphy Express station pulled in a $10,000 commission for selling the claimed ticket.
