A 58-year-old man has died after he ran into the back of a school bus Friday in Georgetown County.

The Moncks Corner man’s name has not been released. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from multiple traumatic injuries, according to a Facebook post from the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the bus, another adult and six students were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal David Jones.

Both vehicles were eastbound on U.S. 17 Alternate, also known as Highmarket Street, when the bus slowed down for a railroad crossing and was rear-ended by the Dodge van, Jones said.

There were 27 people on the bus, 22 of them students.

The crash happened at 8:45 a.m. about nine miles west of Georgetown.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
