Fire chief in Surfside Beach has been selected as the interim town administrator
Th fire chief in Surfside Beach will serve as the interim town administrator following the current official in the role announced his resignation, according to a news release.
Rob Clemons will take over until a new person is selected to fill William Shanahan’s position. He was appointed the town’s council Tuesday.
A message seeking comment about Clemons new role was not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon.
His last day is will be Dec. 17. Shanahan was in the role for two years.
Clemons will also continue his duties as fire chief, a position he has had since August of 2021.
Shanahan is headed to North Carolina for a similar job in Newport, N.C., which will start Dec. 19, according to a report from the Carteret County News-Times.
Shanahan, who will make $125,000, announced his resignation to officials in an email sent Nov. 18.
