The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called in to investigate the death of a student, who was found dead in his dorm room Sunday.

The student’s name and cause of death have not been officially released as of Tuesday afternoon.

But SLED spokesperson Renée Wunderlich said the university requested their help.

If any time there is a death on a college campus, school officials should notify the law enforcement division, according to state law.

Then, a joint investigation will begin between the school and SLED, but the state must lead it.

The only other time SLED must be called in to handle an investigation at a institution is for criminal sexual conduct on school property.
