More than 20 girls ages 11 to 16 will begin a three-week summer program geared toward getting “Girls Ready for Womanhood.”
Project GROW, in its first year, will be held beginning Saturday at the Canal Street Recreation Center and offer learning opportunities for girls to learn to reach for their dreams, according to program coordinator Krystal Dotson.
For three Saturdays, the girls will meet at Canal Street and discuss topics such as relationships, bullying, sexual health and time management.
Girls also will be taught about etiquette, public speaking and how to prepare a resume and cover letter. More fun activities will include creating vision boards and makeovers with an accompanying photo shoot.
“The mission is to encourage [girls’] dreams, influence their decisions and help them reach their destiny,” according to the program’s schedule.
Girls still are able to register to participate in the free program by visiting http://bit.ly/ProjectGrowMBreg.
Sessions will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, July 18 and July 25.
