More than $990,000 will be spent on beach patrol next year with the use of accommodations tax money

Horry County Council approved the spending of nearly $3 million in accommodations taxes in 2016, which includes $286,000 in police and fire/rescue funding for bike events, more than $990,000 for beach patrol, and more than $755,000 on beach cleanup and roadside litter.

Accommodations taxes are collected statewide and re-distributed by the state to area municipalities for expenses related to tourism, marketing, beautification projects and more.
