A 12-year old coffee house on the Myrtle Beach boardwalk will close beginning of November

Boardwalk Coffeehouse owner DeAnn Sarver said the coffee house would officially close on Nov. 1, when their lease is up.

“It’s been such a blessing and very prosperous for us, just blessed us in so many ways that it’s really a very sad thing for us,” Sarver said. “We almost feel like we’re in mourning because we’re losing our baby that we had for 13 years.”

Sarver said while there were many reasons for closing, the number one reason was to retire. Sarver owns the coffee house with her husband, Rick Sarver.

The two plan to spend their retirement traveling the U.S. A farewell party will be held at the coffeehouse on Oct. 30 from 3-6 p.m.

“This is the most difficult decision that we’ve ever had to make as we have seen many lives touched through this ministry, but sometimes you have to let go of the good thing in order to see even greater things to come,” Rick Sarver wrote in a Facebook post.

The coffeehouse opened in May of 2010, when the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk & Promenade was first built. The Sarvers, who sold three coffeehouses in Charlotte, spotted dolphins in the ocean on their first visit to the area in April 2010.

Saver said they took it as a sign to open a coffee house in Myrtle Beach.

What will happen next to the coffeehouse is unclear. DeAnn Sarver said the landlord has plans to rent out the building to someone else.

The coffeehouse is on 9th Avenue North, right in front of a beach access point along the boardwalk.
