Hurricane Fiona to bring rip tides to Myrtle Beach area waters

Hurricane Fiona is currently traveling through the Atlantic Ocean and is predicted to be slightly north of the Bahamas by 2 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

The tropical storm’s path is not projected towards the east coast of the U.S. so it will not hit the Myrtle Beach area, but it will impact our waters, authorities say.

Swells are predicted to form this evening along our coast causing rip currents, also known as rip tides, along with some minor beach erosion.

If caught in a rip tide, swim parallel to the shore. Know what to do should you ever get swept out to sea with these rough currents.
