Tuesday’s Horry County police chase led to crash, one arrest
After a failed attempt to shoot a woman in the head, 22-year-old Zhimarius Wanya Baker fled the scene and caused a 33-minute police chase through Horry County on Tuesday, according to an incident report and arrest warrants.
Baker is being held with out bond at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with five attempted murder counts, two reckless driving counts, failure to stop for law enforcement, pointing and presenting a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful carry, simple possession of marijuana, failure to stop when meeting or passing a stopped school bus, open container of beer or wine in vehicle, and three hit-and-run charges.
Baker was said to have shot at police during the pursuit.
The incident report outlines that police were dispatched to Stallion Court near Conway after Baker stole a victim’s gun and shot at her head and missed. Police eventually found Baker’s car and tried to pull him over, but Baker was said to have sped off.
During the chase, Baker almost hit a person with his car, according to an arrest warrant.
The chase came to a halt when Baker crashed near Butler Street and Main Street in the Loris section of Horry County.
Baker was then arrested and police retrieved the gun and found out that he did not have a permit to carry.
Police say that no one was injured.
