Suspect now in custody after lengthy police negotiation on North Ocean Boulevard

Myrtle Beach police officers have one person in custody after a negotiation that lasted over three hours.

Tom Vest, a public information officer for the department, said a few minutes after 10:30 a.m. that they have one person in custody.

The suspect barricaded in a room on the second floor of the Happy Holiday motel on 507 North Ocean Boulevard, according to a tweet from the department.

At about 10:36 a.m., heavily armed law enforcement officials entered a room on the second floor. Bystanders could hear unidentified loud noises and yelling. One window was smashed and a door forced open by law enforcement.

A woman staying on the third floor said she was woken up early in the morning by a police officer knocking on her door and asking her to leave the hotel.
