Here’s how your Myrtle Beach vacation might look different in August this year
Your Myrtle Beach vacation in August might look a little different due to the construction along the Myrtle Beach boardwalk and promenade area.
The oceanfront boardwalk is about one and a half miles long and goes from 14th Avenue pier to the 2nd Avenue pier.
Take a look at what’s been added so far.
Selfie stations along the boardwalk
Two “selfie stations” were added along the boardwalk for families to take beach themed photos. Two more are coming in the following couple of weeks, according to Mark Kruea, City of Myrtle Beach’s spokesperson. Angie Hensen, a visitor, used one of the selfie stations during a family outing on Thursday. “It’s really cool,” Hensen said.
A new wooden deck
Crews are replacing the wooden deck along the Myrtle Beach boardwalk, using weather resistant composite materials. Before construction, this boardwalk used to be a southern yellow pine deck. The overall project to revamp the area costs $3.7 million, according to the City of Myrtle Beach.
New railings along the Myrtle Beach boardwalk
The wooden railings along the ocean side of the boardwalk were added as apart of the construction along the Myrtle Beach boardwalk and promenade area. Construction is expected to be complete by November. Decorative metal handrails are being added alongside Ocean Boulevard as well.
