An unidentified 21-year-old man is being credited as a hero by Myrtle Beach leaders after pulling a woman from the fiery wreckage of her car.

“I told him he should be proud. He saved that woman’s life,” Myrtle Beach Police Cpl. Matt Deane said, according to a Facebook post posted to the city’s account July 24.

City spokesman Mark Kruea said the rescuer’s identity is being kept secret for now, and there was no immediate information on the condition of the woman he helped.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Farrow Parkway and Fred Nash Blvd., when the woman’s car veered off the road and hit a building, sparking a fire after severing a natural gas line.

“Instead of waiting for help, he ran toward the danger, quickly pulling the elderly driver out of the car and saving her life,” the city said in its Facebook post, which has been shared more than 1,500 times.

“He was in the right place at the right time and willingly stepped up to help,” the post said.
