Your trip to the beaches in North Myrtle Beach might look a little different after the City of North Myrtle Beach passed new rules.

City of Myrtle Beach Ordinance 5-24, which was amended Thursday states that no person may place beachware items on the beach to be bought, sold, or leased, except those that the City of North Myrtle Beach sells themselves.

Beach ware, a term used collectively by the City of Myrtle Beach, includes:

  • Umbrellas
  • floats
  • beach chairs
  • lounge chairs
  • Coolers
  • Boogie boards

In a release sent Thursday, the City of North Myrtle Beach stated that these new ordinances only stop business owners from selling on public beaches, not anywhere else.

“If private businesses are allowed to engage in concessions operations on the beach, it erodes the funding source the City uses to provide these vital services,” the press release states. Some of the city’s funding goes to lifeguard services, beach patrol, beach raking, and trash removal.
