You can face jail time or a fine if you leave your pets tethered outside in this heat
Horry County pet owners can face either 30 days in jail or a $500 fine if their animals are found “tethered outside during extreme weather,” per the Code of Ordinances of Horry County, South Carolina.
Extreme weather includes temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the ordinance.
The National Weather Service reported that temperatures in Horry County and other coastal counties in South Carolina will be in the low 90s today, upper 80s tomorrow and well into the 90s on Friday.
The county’s pet care ordinances also called it “unlawful” to tether an animals without giving them access to water, food and shelter.
