Want to vote early in SC? Early voting ends today in Horry County

South Carolina’s new statewide early voting program was a massive hit in Horry County.

With one day left in the early voting period, the Horry County Voter Registration & Elections office said nearly 9,200 people have showed up at one of four locations to cast ballots ahead of Tuesday’s primary election.

And Horry County’s total — 9,164 people, specifically — was thousands more than every other county in the state.

Early voting totals showed that Richland County, where Columbia is located, also had a high early voting turnout, but it was still thousands less than Horry County.

Early voting in South Carolina, however, closes tomorrow. If you still want to cast your ballot early, here’s what you need to know:

Where and when to vote early

It’s too late to register to vote in the June 14 primary. But if you’re already registered, bring your voter registration card or a photo ID (if you don’t have a voter registration card) to one of Horry County’s four early voting locations:

  • The Voters Registration and Elections Office, located at 1515 4th Ave. Conway, SC 29526
  • The North Strand Recreation Center, located at 120 State Highway 57 South, Little River, SC 29566
  • The South Strand Recreation Center, located at 9650 Scipio Lane Myrtle Beach, SC 29588
  • The Carolina Forest Library, located at 2250 Carolina Forest Blvd. Myrtle Beach, SC 29579

Those early voting locations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Again, tomorrow — Friday, June 10 — is the last day to vote early.

A smooth roll out

In early May, it wasn’t clear if South Carolina lawmakers would vote to enact early voting, making voting officials in Horry County nervous.

But lawmakers did, and Sandy Martin, the head of elections in Horry County, said it’s gone smoothly. She said this year’s early voting locations were the same used in 2020 during the pandemic, when early voting was temporarily available.

“We only had a week to get them approved and set up so we went with what we knew and it worked out perfectly,” Martin said.

Martin also had a message for Horry County voters.

“If you want to vote early and vote before Election Day (you) need to go on out and get it done.”
