Video shows police, onlookers free motorcyclist stuck under car in Myrtle Beach

A motorcyclist was stuck under a car after a car crashed into the motorcycle on Ocean Boulevard in May, a video shows.

The motorcyclist and passenger, whose names have not been released, were treated for nonthreatening injuries, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s Facebook post that included the video.

It shows a man riding his bike on May 28 with a passenger on the back when the driver of a car overtakes the motorcycle, knocking the woman to the ground and trapping the man and bike under the car.

Onlookers immediately rush over to the scene to help, along with police officers in golf carts, according to the video, which was posted May 31. They appear to quickly assess the situation before lifting the car up and pulling the man out.

The department thanked the officers and pedestrians who stepped in to help free the man and reminded drivers to be safe when operating vehicles.

“As the summer season is picking up, please remember to slow down and look twice to keep everyone safe! It only takes a moment to cause a crash., “ the post stated. “...We are lucky to live and work in a community where everyone is ready to work together to help others.”

The crash happened during the 42nd Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival, an annual event that brings tens of thousands of bikers to the area. The festival, also known as Atlantic Beach Bikefest or Black Bike Week, returned Memorial Day weekend after it was canceled two years in a row due to COVID-19 concerns.
