Horry County inmate dies after being found unresponsive in cell, officials say
An inmate who was found unresponsive Monday at J. Reuben Long Detention in Horry County has died, officials said Wednesday.
An officer found the inmate, Destiny Ball, 27, in her cell around 10 p.m. Monday, according to a press release sent from the Horry County’s Sheriff’s Office.
Medical staff and officers performed “lifesaving measures” on the inmate, who was then taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, the news release states.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death in compliance with the detention center’s policy for inmate fatalities.
The coroner released Ball’s name on Thursday.
