5 things to do in the Grand Strand this weekend
Memorial Day is this Monday, so it is time to celebrate our fallen heroes.
History.com says that the holiday used to be called Decoration Day and started in the years after the Civil War but did not become a federal holiday until 1971.
While not all of the Grand Strand events detailed below pertain to Memorial Day, the weekend in which Memorial Day takes place is a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the community. Each of these events are family-friendly!
Celebrate Memorial Day early at Market Common
When: Saturday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Market Common at Farrow Parkway
“Farrow Parkway is awash in red, white and blue on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day as the Military Appreciation Days Parade sweeps through the Market Common district. Large crowds attend the event, which features a Grand Marshal and Honorary Grand Marshal. The free family picnic follows in Valor Memorial Garden, with entertainment, exhibits, displays and more,” as described on the city’s website.
Enjoy some music at the park
When: Sunday, May 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Corner Of Surfside Drive And Willow Drive in Surfside Beach

Golf cart lovers and drivers, now is your time to shine
When: Monday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Where: Ocean Blvd from 13th Avenue South to 16th Avenue North
The Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade will take place on Memorial Day.
“Dress up your carts in patriotic colors as prizes will be awarded,” as written on the city’s website.
If you would like to participate in the parade, check-in will take place at the 13th Avenue South parking lot at 9 a.m.. You must register to ride in the parade using this link.
End the weekend by honoring our fallen heroes
When: Monday, May 30 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Memorial Park
After parading your decorated golf cart, come to the Memorial Day service to honor those who have died serving our country.
Kick off Black Bike Week in Atlantic Beach
When: Friday, May 27 through May 30
Where: Atlantic Beach, various locations
“Celebrate culture and heritage at this annual event. Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, also known as Black Bike Week or the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival. This motorcycle rally is held every year during Memorial Day weekend. Meet and greets, parties, live music and entertainment will be held throughout the weekend,” as described on the Visit Myrtle Beach website.
