Man dies after being pulled from ocean in North Myrtle Beach, police say

A man died after being pulled from the water Saturday in North Myrtle Beach.

He was body surfing before being pulled from the water near 16th Avenue South about 2:20 p.m., according to a report from North Myrtle Beach police.

The man was given CPR by beach patrons as emergency services, and the nearest lifeguard were called.

Two people that were with the man said he was body surfing in waist-high water when the two left to grab a drink and relax, the report states. They returned to find first responders tending to the man.

The man was then taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The police report called the incident a drowning, though the corner has not released an official cause of death at this time.

The coroner has yet to release the man’s name.
