Horry locals voted on the best time to hit the beach — the results aren’t what you’d expect
When it comes to hitting the beach, not all seasons are created equal.
Summer brings the heat, but sometimes it can be blistering and unbearable.
Winter is noticeably less crowded, but you won’t necessarily be able to take a dip in the water.
Fall and spring are somewhere in between.
So The Sun News went on a mission to find the best time to enjoy the Grand Strand beaches. Our readers filled out a poll and voted for their favorite time to walk along the shore, search for shells, relax with a book and swim to their heart’s content.
While the knee-jerk reaction might be to say summer is undoubtedly the best beach time, our poll proves Myrtle Beach locals think otherwise.
The time period from September to November garnered the most votes.
“Crowds are gone, ocean still warm,” one reader wrote.
The lack of crowds in the fall is a draw for many Myrtle Beach area residents.
“Fewer teens,” James Plogger noted.
“Not as crowded and the weather is still good enough to be out sitting in my chair with a book in hand,” Donna Peake wrote.
But for some die-hard summer beach bums, the crowds just make the beach trip more interesting.
“More people creates more fun,” said Jeffrey Guillette.
The winter months, from December to February, captured one lone voter, who appreciates the lack of crowds.
