Residents of North Myrtle Beach will no longer have to display parking decals in city-owned lots, according to a report from MyHorryNews.

Free parking for North Myrtle Beach residents in city-owned paid parking lots will be enforced using license-tag reader technology, according to the report. The tags must be displayed in their usual place and the view of them must be unobstructed.

The new enforcement technology will be used beginning March 1. The new rules do not apply to golf carts, which will still have to display parking decals either on the windshield or front of the cart.

North Myrtle Beach residents and non-resident property owners who pay city property taxes on their vehicles qualify for two free parking exemptions, MyHorryNews reported. The parking exemptions can be used for cars, golf carts, or a combination of the two.

Non-resident property owners who have not paid taxes on their vehicle are eligible for one free parking exemption.

A parking exemption can be purchased for $200, and covers the season spanning March 1 to Oct. 31.
