Authorities identified the victims of last week’s deadly house fire in the Litchfield-Pawleys Island area.

Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway identified the victims as James Pauley, 72, and Sherry Pauley, 71. The two were married, Ridgeway said.

The couple died from smoke inhalation, Ridgeway said.

The fire started early Thursday morning and destroyed the house on Windy Lane where the Pauleys lived, according to neighbors and public records. Midway Fire Rescue responded about 5:35 a.m., Division Chief Mark Nugent said.

The blaze spread to a second house, which sustained significant damage. No one was in the second house at the time of the fire.
