The week ahead: What you need to know

Runoff slated for Horry Dist. 6 seat Tuesday

Kirk Hanna and Cam Crawford will compete in a runoff election Tuesday for the Horry County Council District 6 seat.

Earlier this month, Hanna led a six-candidate field in votes received during a special Republican primary, and Crawford came in second. Tuesday’s results will essentially determine the winner because there is no Democratic opposition in the Aug. 4 general election.

The district includes the Socastee and Forestbrook communities and holds over 15,000 registered voters.

Myrtle Beach council discussing Confederate flag

The Myrtle Beach City Council has called a special council meeting on Monday to discuss and vote on passing a resolution in support of removing the Confederate flag from the S.C. Statehouse grounds.

The meeting will be held 10 a.m. Monday at City Hall in the first-floor conference room. Myrtle Beach City Hall is located at 937 Broadway Street.

Final Cherry Grove objections to be heard Tuesday, Wednesday

Property owners who want to challenge their assessment within the Cherry Grove special assessment district for the planned canal dredging project have Tuesday and Wednesday to voice their concerns to a panel.

Owners who have provided the North Myrtle Beach city manager with a written objection to their assessment can verbally support their written objections at 9 a.m. each day at City Hall. Although the hearings are open to the public, only property owners within the assessment district who have provided the city manager with written objections will be allowed speak.

The final date and time for providing the city manager with a written objection to an assessment is 9 a.m. Wednesday. Property owners who do not meet that deadline will be deemed to have consented to their assessment.
