The Horry County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of a deputy Monday.

Deputy Kent Gause died in his home early Monday morning, according to a Facebook post from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.

Gause worked as a transport deputy and had more than 35 years of law enforcement experience, the Horry County Sheriff’s Office stated.

The Facebook post announcing Gause’s death mentions that he recently became an ordained minister at Cedar Branch Baptist Church.

“He was thrilled to finally live out his calling and invited the whole community to the ceremony,” the post states.

In the Facebook post, Chief Deputy Tom Fox called Gause “a dear friend and co-worker, and fellow football fanatic.”

Fox described Gause as a “loving, caring soul who cherished serving others” and mentoring young men, according to the Facebook post.

“God chose Kent to preach his word, and has now taken him to serve as a reminder that life is short,” Fox said in the Facebook post.

“His smiles were infectious and his trademark hugs and ‘I love you’s’ were staples in our organization,” J. Reuben Long Detention Center Director Marcus Rhodes said in the post.

The department did not state Gause’s age nor cause of death.
