A new housing development is coming to North Myrtle Beach after 15 years

A new development, which includes 250 townhouses and single-family units, is slated for construction in North Myrtle Beach after 15 years of planning.

The project, led by DDC Engineering’s president, Mike Wooten, will cover 65 acres on Clipper Road, WPDE-TV reported. Wooten helped build the Tidewater community, which is nearby.

Residents, including Ronnie Nichols, have expressed concerns about one-way roads throughout the community creating evacuation hazards and flooding, according to the TV station.

But Mayor Marilyn Hatley, who attended Wednesday’s community meeting about the development, said those concerns have been addressed.

“...There will be no flooding from the building of these homes. They’re not touching the wetlands,” she said. “They’re not filling the wetlands, so the natural wetlands will stay. They have addressed the water and sewer capacity. They have done a road study. We know that they’re going to have to put a turn lane in.”

Some neighbors, council members and Senator Greg Hembree attended Wednesday’s meeting.
