Horry County has lifted its burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Horry County, officials said Tuesday.

The decision goes into effect immediately, according to a Horry County government press release emailed to The Sun News on Tuesday.

Officials said all open burning in the county requires you to call the South Carolina Forestry Commission at 1-800-986-5404 before the fire is started.

“Even when the burning ban is not in place, we ask for consideration and due diligence when actively involved in open burning, “ the release stated. “Always remember to lean on the side of safety, and do not burn in windy or dry conditions.”

The county instituted the ban due to dry weather and relatively low humidity, which increased the risk of fire danger.

The ban comes followed a 10-acre blaze in the Little River on Nov. 30. No injuries or property damage were reported.
