Missed urn? Goodwill in Lowcountry SC trying to return donated ashes to rightful owner

The Tampa Bay Times via AP

A Palmetto Goodwill store located in the Lowcountry received a meaningful donation Wednesday, but it doesn’t plan on keeping it.

An employee at the nonprofit’s Summerville location spotted a small urn with ashes inside among the donations, and they’re now trying to locate its proper owner to return it, according to Megan Fink, vice president of marketing and communications.

Fink noted this isn’t the first time they’ve received such a donation, but when it happened a few years ago, there was identifying information on the urn that made it easier to locate the owner. That’s not the case this time.

Anyone missing an urn is urged to contact Palmetto Goodwill at 843-566-0072 with a description.

If they’re unable to find the rightful owner, Fink said they’re in contact with a local funeral director about what appropriate next steps would be.
