Several shoulder closures are planned this week for work on the Glenns Bay Road widening project.
Now through Friday, there will be a shoulder closure on U.S. 17 Bypass north and south bound in the median areas and the right shoulders at different times of the day to mow grass, according to a press release sent by Horry County. This work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. between St. James Road and Sutter Drive.
Also, today through Friday, there will be a shoulder closure on Holmestown Roadd, east and west bound on the right shoulder, to mow grass. The work is planned between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. between U.S. 17 Bypass and Blue Jay Drive.
The $46.3 million project calls for a bridge to be built over Glenns Bay Road. It also includes the widening of Glenns Bay to Spanish Oak Drive to a five-lane highway. From Spanish Oak, the road will narrow to four lanes to the entrance of Surfside Beach Club before turning to three lanes as it reaches U.S. 17 Business.
