Horry County crews rescue adults, kids from SUV overturned in Conway-area floodwaters

Horry County rescue crews helped rescue three kids and two adults from floodwaters on Thursday night.

Horry County police Officer Adam Tack was told of an overturned SUV in the water Cates Bay Highway near Bunyan Lane around 8:50 p.m. It was the same time the remnants of Hurricane Sally passed through the area.

There were three children and two adults in the submerged vehicle at risk of drowning, according to Horry police.

Tack jumped in the floodwaters and used his baton to break the window to help those inside. Horry County and Conway fire crews arrived on the scene and helped rescue all the occupants and one bystander.

The victims were out of the car by 9:30 p.m., and one had non-life-threatening injuries, according to Horry County Fire spokesman Tony Casey. Tack also had minor injuries.
