Fayetteville man dead as a result of weekend drowning in Myrtle Beach: coroner

A 43-year-old North Carolina man has died following a drowning incident Sunday, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

On Sunday evening, Watonia Owens of Fayetteville, North Carolina went underwater in the area of 14th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, a news release states. He was pulled from the water and taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The cause of death was drowning, according to the coroner’s office.
