SC woman drowns in North Myrtle Beach, officials say

A 51-year-old woman drown Thursday morning in the Cherry Grove area, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

The victim - identified as Malinda Smith - was found around 7:45 a.m. in the tidal marsh near Nixon Street, according to the coroner’s office. She was from Leesville, South Carolina.

The cause of death appears to be drowning, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning.

There is no foul play suspected in Smith’s death. The North Myrtle Beach police also investigated her apparent drowning.
