Lights, camera, action: All Horry County movie theaters have now set reopening dates
You can finally return to the big screen this week.
B&B Theatres Conway 12 became the latest Horry County movie theater to announce a reopening date and it will be one of the first to begin showing films following a mandate forcing them to close amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Conway movie house announced via Facebook on Monday that it is set to reopen Friday, joining Grand 14 Theater at The Market Common (Aug. 28), Cinemark at Myrtle Beach at Coastal Grand Mall (Friday) and AMC Classic Myrtle Beach 12 at Myrtle Beach Mall (Aug. 27).
“Breaking news!!!! We are opening THIS WEEKEND!!!!! Tickets will be on sale SOON!” B&B Theatres Conway 12 stated in a Facebook post that includes details on safety precautions being taken with the COVID-19 pandemic still upon us.
S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster announced last month sports stadiums, theaters, concert venues and other places that have large gatherings could reopen in South Carolina starting Aug. 3. However, those places, which can often hold hundreds or thousands of people, will have their posted occupancy slashed.
Under the executive order, McMaster is limiting those places to 250 people or 50 percent of the posted occupancy, whichever is less. And those venues must “require the wearing of masks or face coverings as a condition of admission or participation.”
According to a statement from the governor’s office, the businesses and venues covered under this order include “festivals, parades, concerts, theaters, stadiums, arenas, coliseums, auditoriums, grandstands, amphitheaters, gymnasiums, concert halls, dance halls, performing arts centers, parks, racetracks, or similarly operated entities.”
Some local movie theaters have been urging their patrons to participate in a #saveyourcinema campaign, urging Congress to pass legislation that will help keep them open following the hard hits taken by the pandemic.
“THANK YOU from everyone who enjoys movies on the big screen, screenwriters, make-up artists, editors, sound editors, directors, producers, actors, boom operators, grips, set carpenters, animation artists, musicians & vocalists, casting directors, dramaturges, agents, managers, front of house, ushers, popcorn makers, local managers, marketing teams, and SO many more who make this industry work.
“I want to get back to normal work, so I get to work with my B&B Family! So many of them are hurting and it is heartbreaking being unable to do more. This will help!” B&B Theatres stated in a Facebook post last month.
Other entertainment venues in Horry County, such as Medievel Times, have reopened, while others are still closed.
