Nobody hurt in house fire near downtown Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach crews are fighting a fire at a home near 3rd Avenue South Friday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., crews responded to Charlotte Road for the reported blaze. When fire crews arrived, they found flames and smoke coming the front of the home, Capt. Christian Sliker said.

All occupants were out of the home when the fire started inside the home, Sliker said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rand Ford lives nearby and said black smoke was coming from the vents on the roof. The homeowner tried to put out the fire with his backyard hose, Ford said.

Police closed nearby 3rd Avenue South for a few minutes because the smoke was thick in the area as crews tried to extinguish the fire.
