Popular Myrtle Beach area ‘tweens’ clothing stores to shut down, hold closing sales
A popular “tweens” clothing store will soon no longer be a local option for shoppers in the Myrtle Beach area.
Ascena Retail Group announced Friday some downsizing that will be a result of its bankruptcy proceedings, which includes the elimination of three Justice clothing stores along the Grand Strand.
Justice stores at Coastal Grand Mall and both area Tanger Outlets will close as part of the bankruptcy, though no specific date has been announced. They are listed among stores on the company website characterized as having “store closing sales,” which include merchandise from 40 to 60 percent off.
Court proceedings have allowed for Ascena to hold store closing sales for all Catherines stores, a significant number of Justice stores and a select number of Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant and Lou & Grey stores, according to a news release from the parent company. None of the other brand stores under the Ascena umbrella located in the Myrtle Beach area were among a list of initial store closings posted by USA Today, though further closures could come later.
Ascena will continue to operate a reduced number of Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant, Justice and Lou & Grey through both brick and mortar and online capacities.
The Restructuring Support Agreement is expected to reduce Ascena’s debt by $1 billion, the news release states.
Justice is considered a brand that targets tweens, a general term referring to children between 10 and 12 years old. It offers clothing, accessories, toys and more.
