New, 200-plus housing subdivision gets one step closer to coming to Carolina Forest area

A proposed housing development that would consist of nearly 300 homes in the Carolina Forest area is now just one step away from getting the green light to build.

On Tuesday, Horry County Council approved the second reading of a request to amend zoning maps that include the Carolina Forest Towne Center. The proposed housing develop would be constructed between Hinson Drive and S.C. 31.

The request will need to pass a third reading to go into effect.

The housing development plan calls for 290 single-family units to be built on a little more than 30 acres of land. Access through McLeod Health’s Carolina Forest location would be required in addition to a main access at Hinson Drive.

The subdivision would sit next to Mosby Carolina Forest, an apartment complex. Carolina Forest Towne Center also includes commercial businesses.
